The
Cowboys were really hurting last season when Flozell Adams went down
to a knee injury in week 6.Torrin Tucker and rookie Rob Pettiti manned
the position after Adams went down, but couldn't match the level of
play that the Pro Bowler provided. By season end, the Cowboys offensive
line surrendered 50 sacks and 40 of those came after Adams went down
with his injury. Adams is expected to be back at full strength in
2006 but the Cowboys should add some quality depth here, in case Adams
has any setbacks in his recovery or Tucker leaves via free agency.
Another issue up front is the status of G Larry Allen. Allen is under
contract for 2006, but will the Cowboys choose to pay the $7.55 million
that he is due to make in 2006? Allen is heading into his 13th season,
but still plays at a very high level. They must find his eventual
successor, sooner, rather than later. Andre Gurode could be Allen's
replacement, but he is and unrestricted FA this season and the Cowboys
will have to make a decision on whether to sign him or let him test
the FA market. |

WR |
Terry
Glenn and Keyshawn Johsnon are expected to be back for another season
in 2006, but how many more productive years do they have left in them?
They are both headed into their 11th season in the NFL and have a
history of injuries. Glenn had one of his best seasons as a pro in
2005, but many have to question his ability to repeat that performance
and stay healthy. Johnson has become a possession receiver and never
did possess great speed. Patrick Crayton showed some flashes of talent
as the third receiver, but can he be more than that? Peerless Price
was signed at the start of the season, but never saw much action and
is an unrestricted FA. The Cowboys need and influx of youth at this
position and would be wise to nab Santonio Holmes in the first round,
if he is available when they pick. If he's not there, they would still
be well-served to go after another young receiver in the middle rounds
of the draft. |

QB |
Drew
Bledsoe had a good season in 2005, but how many more years are left
in him? He isn't the most mobile QB, evidence of the 50 sacks he took
last season. The Boys need a young arm they can develop for the future.
They thought they had that in Drew Henson, but the early word on Henson
is that he will never be a starting QB in the NFL. Tony Romo is a
decent backup and some believe that he can be Bledsoe's eventual replacement;
we're not buying it. The Cowboys may want to take a look in the draft
at a young arm like, Omar Jacobs or Brodie Croyle. |

LB |
The Cowboys really
found a gem in last years draft by drafting Demarcus Ware out of Troy
St. Ware provided the pass rush ability that a 3-4 linebacker must
have. He should be a fixture in Dallas for years to come. They also
got some pretty good play out of Scott Fujita from the strong-side.
Fujita is an UFA this offseason though and they should make every
attempt to bring him back. Bradie James and Scott Shanle man the middle
LB spots and are both third year players. They must improve their
level of play if the Cowboys want to get better at defending the run.
They have too much talent on their defensive line to be ranked 15th
in the NFL against the rush. A free agent, veteran, run-stopping LB
would be a good fit here. Maybe a guy like Earl Holmes would be a
good fit, since he played in a 3-4 defense in his Steeler days. |

FS |
The Cowboys thought
their secondary woes were behind them after they signed CB Anthony
Henry in free agency last offseason, but were still victimized by
the deep pass (See the Monday night loss to Washington). Keith Davis,
a third year player out of Sam Houston St., is a restricted free agent
this offseason and should stick with the team, but the Boys may be
wise to go shopping on the free agent market for a veteran safety,
if they have the cap space. They need to stop their tendency of giving
up the deep pass and acquiring a veteran FS like a Lance Shulters
may go a long way in helping that effort. |
